Chowy uses Anthropic’s Claude API for two jobs in the iPhone beta: answering questions from your dog’s own records, and reading vet documents into entries you review. This page says what is sent to Claude, what is never sent, and how the demo on this website works.
Two workflows
Ask the book
You ask a question about your dog. Chowy’s server sends Claude the question with your dog’s profile, active medications, recent records and the titles of your documents. Claude answers with citations to record ids, and the server keeps only citations to records it actually sent, so every source you see opens a real entry. A citation does not make an answer correct: check what matters.
Turn a document into records
You choose a photo or PDF of a vet document. Claude reads it into a structured draft (dates, weight, medicines, observations), and nothing is saved until you review the draft and decide what belongs in the book.
Chowy sends nothing to Claude until you allow it once in the app. You can turn AI off in Settings at any time: that stops any further sending, but what was already sent is not recalled.
Claude helps you find and organise facts. It does not diagnose, and treatment decisions stay with your veterinarian.
What is sent, and what is never sent
Sent to Claude, after your consent
For an answer or a report summary: your question, your dog’s profile, active medications, recent records and the titles of your documents.
For a document import: the photo or PDF you choose.
Never sent
Your account email and account id.
Your other dogs.
The emails of people you share a dog with.
Records are sent as you wrote them, so a name, address or phone number typed into a record goes with it.
Chowy passes your records to Claude as data, not as instructions: text inside a record is part of the dog’s history, never a command to the model.
Anthropic is the only AI provider
Every AI feature in Chowy runs on Anthropic’s Claude API from Chowy’s server: Claude Sonnet 5.5, with Claude Sonnet 5 as a rare fallback. The API key never reaches your phone or this website.
Anthropic states that standard API inputs and outputs are deleted within 30 days, with exceptions such as legal obligations and usage-policy enforcement, and that commercial API data is not used for model training by default. We do not claim a zero-data-retention agreement.
Mura, her family and her records are fictional. When you ask a question on the home page, your browser sends it to Chowy’s demo service, which sends it to Claude with Mura’s records. When you ask Claude to read a Chowy Sense week, only the week’s name and the page language are sent; every reading is simulated.
Chowy does not store your question or your IP address. It keeps Claude’s answer and a hash of the normalised question for 7 days, so the same question gets the saved answer without a new call, labelled as saved. To limit abuse, it keeps only a salted hash of your network address that changes every day.
Each visitor gets up to 6 live answers an hour, and the site up to 300 a day. Please don’t type personal details into the demo.
How the service is secured
HTTPS only, with a strict transport security (HSTS) policy.
A Content Security Policy with a fresh nonce for every page, so the site runs only its own scripts and a short list of named services.
Row-level security on every database table: a dog’s records are readable only by the people its book is shared with. Automated tests check that no table is left without it.
The Claude API key and the database’s server keys stay on the server.
Export every record as a file for free, and delete your account and data from the app or from your web account.
